Most women carry a story within the tissues of their body, pelvis, vaginal canal and cervix of a violating or painful experience with a speculum.
Whether within a regular gynecologic visit, within or around birth, or in an unexpected emergency, the fast pace that speculums have been used in our bodies have created fragmentations of pain and imprints of fear within our systems.Â
It is time that we reclaim our relationship to our bodies and womanly health in a way that is rooted in sovereignty, and that gives us space to viscerally tend and process these previous experiences, while taking back our voice, connection to our bodies, and authority within our bodies.
Through The Sovereign Speculum we may offer a new possibility of safety, repair, and connection in our journey forward and around our womanly health.
In this workshop we will ask the question of, “what can happen when the speculum which may have caused harm in previous, numerous ways, is somatically reclaimed?”
Through my own journey I have discovered that when the speculum becomes a sovereign experience we can somatically reclaim a new degree of our power within our own bodies. I now believe that all women deserve to know both how to use a speculum, as well as how to relate deeply and safely to their bodies through this tool.
